Summer 2008 Intern Naturalist

Salary: Stipend- $225/ week

Site Information:

Wood Lake Nature Center is in the heart of the Twin Cities metro area. It is a busy urban park that is comprised of 150-acres of forest, prairie, and cattail marsh habitat, and is dedicated to high-quality environmental education and interpretive programs.  The park has miles of recreational trails and a nature center facility that is open everyday to the public.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Interns will be responsible for aiding in the design and instruction of summer camp and environmental education programs at Wood Lake Nature Center with other staff. Interns will also have an opportunity to create their own public interpretive programs that are presented on Sunday afternoons. Summer Intern Naturalist will be able to assist with a variety of projects as they arise (prairie management, exotic species control, trail maintenance, exhibit and displays, instruct volunteers, telemetry, event planning, taxidermy, and water quality testing).

Minimum Qualifications:

Interns must be a college student that has completed their sophomore or junior year of college and are working towards a degree in environmental education, environmental studies, biology, education, or a related field. College graduates with a degree in the field are also encouraged to apply. Experience working with young children in an outdoor setting and natural history knowledge is extremely helpful.

Season and Time Commitment:

The summer Intern Naturalist position is a 13-week position. It starts the first week in June and goes through August, 2008. This position is a 40 hour per week position, and

is Sunday through Thursday.
